About the Wellness
The Darke County Wellness Challenge
is a wellness initiative formed in cooperation with
local businesses and lifestyle groups to make our
community healthier. The challenge promotes community
health through 12 running/walking events in Darke
County. The events offer an opportunity for all
to engage in challenges with 5K's. Race points are
earned for participation and competitive achievements,
which will be accumulated at the end of the season.
All the races help fund nonprofit and community
organizations which in turn helps to support the
needs of the community.
There is no cost to be entered in
the Darke County Wellness Challenge. You simply
participate in one of the Darke County Wellness
Challenge races and you will automatically be entered
into the challenge. Participants will be entered
as an individual and/or a team. Registration forms
for each race will have a place for "Age as
of 12/31/18". This is so participants remain
in the same age division for the entire challenge.
Enter as an Individual
You will automatically be entered into the challenge
if you participate in any of the Darke County Wellness
Challenge races. It doesn't matter if you participate
in one event or all of them. Just show up at the
participating event(s) and have fun!
Enter as a Team
To participate in the wellness challenge
as a team, you simply enter your team name on the
registration form at each race. All members register
themselves. You do not need to be together for registration.
Everyone who enters your team name on their registration
form will be on your team.
A team must have at least five people
per race. There is no limit to the number or make
up of your team. It can be friends, family, co-workers
or any other combination. You can have 100 or more
team members and EVERY member who finishes will
earn at least one point towards the year end awards.
Once the points are uploaded to our
website you have one week (7 days) to contest the
points. Each participant must run at least 5 races
for their points to count toward year end awards.
Each participant may run as many races as he/she
wants but only the top 7 races will count toward
the year end awards. In case of a tie the 8th race
will be considered and so on.
Please use the same name each time
you sign up for a race. If you sign up as “Robert
Jones” in one race and “Bob Jones”
in another race the software sees that as 2 different
The age divisions will be divided in 5 year increments
as follows: 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29,

65-69, and 70+.
You will sign up in the age division
according to your age as of December 31, 2018.
If your birthday is 12/30 and you will be 30 years
old you will register for the 30-34 age division
even though you were 29 for most of the year.
The top 10 in each age division will be awarded
points. All participants will receive 1 point. The
points system will be as follows:
|1st place –
||6th place –

||8th place –
|4th place –
||9th place –

If a person in an age division is awarded an
overall medal that person will get the points
of 1st place in his/her age division. The person
in that age division that received the 1st place
medal will get points for 2nd place and so on.
Example: John Doe,
age 21, won overall male with a time of 15 minutes
and received the medal for overall male. Joe Smith,
age 21, was awarded the 1st place medal in the
age division with a time of 16 minutes. When the
points are listed for their age division, 20-24,
John Doe will have 10 points and Joe Smith will
be awarded the 2nd place points of 9 points and
so on through the age division.
Teams must consist of at least 5 people per race.
You must be registered for the team before the start
of the race. It is your responsibility to know your
correct team name. After the race starts there will
be no changes. You do not have to be on the same
team for all the races but you can only be on one
team per race.
If a team member places in his/her
age division those points will transfer to the team
points. Since every participant is awarded 1 point
then each team member will contribute at least 1
point toward the total team points.
John Smith finished 1st in his age division and
was awarded 10 points. Those 10 points will transfer
to the team competition. Betty Smith finished 13th
in her age division and was awarded 1 point. Betty
will get 1 point in the team competition.
A year end scholarship will be presented
to a student athlete. Please see the home page for
